Gilberto completes move to Panathinaikos

Brazil's Gilberto has completed his transfer from Arsenal to Greek club Panathinaikos.

The midfielder passed a medical and has signed a three-year contract after Arsenal accepted an offer in the region of £1 million for him.

The 31-year-old spent six years at the London club after signing from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro following the 2002 World Cup.

Speaking after signing for Panathinaikos, Gilberto said: "I'm hungry to win more titles.

"I came to Greece because I have big ambitions, it’s very important for me to be able to continue to give my best. I couldn't say no to the offer."

He was a regular fixture in Arsene Weger's side for many years but last season failed to break into the first team because of rising stars Cesc Fabregas and Mathieu Flamini.

Gilberto joins Flamini, who has signed for AC Milan and Alexander Hleb, who has gone to Barcelona, in leaving Arsenal this summer.
